JULIA MARIANO

Executive Director - Founding Member

Julia Mariano is an antiracism and social justice education activist. She is currently a Public Affairs Associate at ALZA Strategies. Julia has roots in education outreach as she partook as a Political Science student mentor in Sacramento State’s Peer Academic Resource Center and has been an advocate for accessible education and student advice. Julia was previously a Legislative Assistant at the California State Assembly, where she specialized in constituent services, and legislative research. Although Julia has experience in legislative work and education outreach, she also has had experience in activism for social justice issues. In her earlier years, she was one of the founders of Student Advocacy for Freedom and Equality, a group aiming to highlight student voices on her high school campus. During her time at university, she briefly campaigned and advocated for the Global Health, Empowerment, and Rights Act. She graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a B.A. in Political Science, and continues to work in online political communications and digital marketing. Julia is the Team Director and one of the founding members of the Reform Revolution Project (RRP). She is determined to contribute to the movement through the power of accessible social justice education.

AVIA MATOSSIAN

Communications Director - Founding Member

Avia Matossian (she/her/hers) was first introduced to activism and social justice movements in high school after learning more about the Civil Rights Movement through a program called Sojourn to the Past and as a founding member of Student Advocates for Freedom and Equality (SAFE), a group aimed at elevating student voices on her high school campus. In college she was a dedicated member and leader of BLUElab, an organization comprised of student teams that develop and implement socially-engaged design projects in Michigan and communities around the world while practicing the philosophy of servant leadership. A philomath and empath at heart, Avia recognizes her privilege and wants to help others with her platform. However, she understands her role and knows there is always room to learn and grow and is eager to help build RRP into a landing pad for others to continue their journeys as lifelong learners. She is a recent graduate of the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering focused on sustainable systems and front-end product design.

ALIX MAHON

Grassroots Coordinator - Founding Member

Alix Mahon (she/her/hers) is a recent graduate of UC Davis with a bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Psychology. Her experience with activism began in high school after learning more about the Civil Rights Movement through a program called Sojourn to the Past and as a founding member of Student Advocates for Freedom and Equality (SAFE), a group aimed to elevate student voices on her high school campus. She currently works as a research assistant in a child development lab at the UC Davis Center for Mind and Brain, but in the past was a campus ambassador for UC Davis Undergraduate Admissions, a member of the National Alzheimer’s Buddies (ABUD) organization, and an outreach center volunteer for individuals experiencing financial insecurity. As a member of UC Davis’ ABUD branch, she dedicated three years to the organization's goal of bringing awareness to and ending the stigma and social isolation related to Alzheimer’s disease. Alix joined RRP to continue her education on social justice issues and use this platform to help others do the same.

CAMIE OSTERLUND

Research Coordinator - Founding Member

Camie Osterlund (she/her/hers) is a recent graduate from UC Davis with a degree in Biological Sciences and a minor in Human Rights. Her education in activism began in high school when she went on a school trip called Sojourn to the Past, where she learned about the Civil Rights Movement. She went on to join Student Advocacy for Freedom and Equality (SAFE) Club, wherein she learned to elevate student voices. She has volunteered at River City Food Bank with her club Global Medical Training. Camie has also traveled to Peru to set up free health clinics, and believes that healthcare should be accessible and viewed as an essential human right.  She worked at an Early Childhood Education Lab and volunteered in the Child Life unit at UC Davis Medical Center for the last 2 years. Camie is excited to be a part of RRP as they strive towards social justice education for all. As a lifelong learner herself, Camie is happy to share what she has gleaned, and is always willing to improve her knowledge and understanding.

RUTH SOSA

Board Member - Founding Member

Ruth is currently seeking a B.A. in Political Science from the California State University, Sacramento. She has a passion for social justice and has worked with various organizations to tackle gender, economic and racial inequalities. In the past year Ruth has worked with the #Fight4Her Campaign, Young Invincibles, Votó Latino and the Democratic National Committee.

ALICIA VOSBERG

Board Member  - Founding Member

Alicia Vosberg aka Ms. V (she/her/hers) has been teaching high school students history through an anti-racist lens for sixteen years in the Bay Area. Alicia has a B.A. in History, an M.A. in US History with a focus on social movements and gender, and a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Social Science, all from San Francisco State University.  Alicia was blessed to be mentored by activists such as Paul Longmore during her tenure at SFSU, and she was able to engage with the world renowned Ethnic Studies Department which broadened her perspectives on History, institutional discrimination, and equity issues.  Alicia is not afraid to teach hard history, our real American history.  Alicia accompanies students on the Sojourn to the Past trip each Spring, has been on the teacher advisory board for Youth Speaks, and has worked with such groups as Facing History and Ourselves.  She is honored to be the educator mentor for Reform Revolution Project.

DEVANTE JEWETT

Board Member - Founding Member

DeVante Jewett (he/him/his) is a social worker at UCSF Citywide serving adults with severe mental illness. His goal as a social worker is to support communities who have been marginalized and oppressed by a system rooted in white supremacy. DeVante has a strong passion for mental health, advocacy, building relationships, and social justice education. His education in activism also began on a trip called Sojourn to the Past, where he retraced the Civil Rights Movement with a hundred other amazing young students. Though social activism was placed on hold post-sojourn, DeVante focused on studying the issues of systemic racism, women’s rights, LGBTQI injustice, and more social movements fighting for justice & change. In the last two years, DeVante has participated in a few social justice events, including meeting with a CA state legislator to lobby & pass policies, protesting to release child migrants from the detention centers, and giving a public comment in support of the logo change of SSF High School’s mascot. DeVante received his Master’s in Social Work from CSU East Bay, B.S. in Psychology & Social Action from Palo Alto University, and A.A. in Psychology from the College of San Mateo. He is happy to learn, relearn, and lend his voice to the Reform Revolution Project (RRP).

JOHN ASKINS

Research Associate - Founding Member

John Askins (he/him/his) is a recent graduate of the University of San Francisco with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. He is an aspiring physical therapist and is invested in the field of healthcare and providing equal access for all citizens. Although relatively new to organized activism, he has always maintained an open mind to learning about injustice, its history, and ways to make both himself and others better allies to communities that face it. He is eager to contribute to RRP’s goal of providing well-researched and accessible education to all populations, and education’s ability to make progress towards a world that is more accepting of its people’s unique traits and histories.
